Weekly Envelopes


Weekly Blue Folder

To enhance communication with all families, every Wednesday students will receive a weekly blue folder with school flyers and information.  Please take out all paperwork from the folder, sign and date the cover page insert and return it with your child on Thursdays. Due to no school on Wednesday, September 19th, the folder will be sent home on Friday, September 21st and returned on Monday, September 24th.  Thank you for your support with home to school successful communication.

College T-shirt Day  Vernon City students are college bound.  Every Friday is College T-shirt day, wear your favorite college t-shirt.

Vernon City is a uniform implementation school

Please follow these guidelines

Drop-off for Drivers

Main gate on Santa Fe opens at 7:30 am and closes at 7:55 am daily.

Please drive onto our campus in the morning, as Santa Fe and Vernon are heavily trafficked.

Pick-up for Walkers and Drivers

Main gate on Santa Fe is open from 2:25 pm - 2:40 pm Monday and Wednesday thru Friday.

Tuesday Santa Fe gate is open from 1:25 pm - 1:40 pm

Santa Fe gate entrance is ONLY for cars.  Main entrance gate is for parents who walk to pick up their child(ren)

Main office entrance opens at 6:30 am ONLY for students who are enrolled in the Ready, Set, Go program and 7:30 for all students, There is NO supervision before 7:30 a.m. The office closes daily at 4:30 p.m.

Please walk your student(s) onto our campus at ALL times.

Students may never walk unaccompanied by an adult from our parking lot.

The limited STAFF parking lot is for teachers and staff ONLY.

For the convenience of everyone, please use the parent/visitor parking lot on Vernon.

At dismissal, please meet your child ON campus.

Main gate on Santa Fe opens at 2:28 pm and closes at 6 pm daily.

Additional parking is available at Vernon City Hall - 2nd floor parking structure.

Open Enrollment
We are currently accepting applications for 2018-2019 school year for grades TK-6th.  Children who live outside of our residential area are welcome! Limited spaces available.

Vernon City Students are recognized for Being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible every month at our Student of the Month Assembly!  This month the character pillar is: Caring:  Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude • Forgive others • Help people in need

Student of the month assembly for November will be held on Friday, December 14th at 8:05 a.m. The character pillar for the month of November was Respect

Principal's Message

I am proud to welcome all families back to Vernon City to begin an exciting year of learning. I am pleased that students are in uniform and focused on engaging in opportunities to expand their knowledge base for future college and career readiness.  I am proud to announce that we are continuing to make positive gains in the SBAC assessment.   Our amazing staff is committed to student success.  We will continue to work collaboratively with all families for continued success.

College Bound


City Hall Performance




Our Robotics Team will be competing on Wednesday, December 5th at Elizabeth Learning Center at 3:30 p.m.  Special thanks to Ms. Cristina Aguilera-Arguilles and Ms. Lopez for leading our team. 


School Experience Survey The school experience survey will be sent home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in the weekly envelope.  Last year we had 91% parent participation, this year our goal is 100%.  Please help us reach our goal.  Your input is extremely important.  Help our school reach 100% completion. All students with families who complete the school experience survey before December 7th, will be invited to the Winter Wonderland dance after school on Friday, December 7th from 3:00-4:30 p.m.



  World's Finest Chocolate Our first fundraiser will begin on Monday, November 26th.  Boxes of assorted chocolate bars are $1.00.  There are 60 candy bars in each box.  We are fundraising for field trips, our 6th grade trip to Knott’s Berry Farm, and our annual Field Day.  If you would like to participate, please come to the office to sign out a box of candy.  WE NEED YOUR HELP, PLEASE PICK UP A BOX OF CHOCOLATES IN THE OFFICE.


Winter Performances   There will be two performances on Thursday, December 13th at 8:45 and 1:45 p.m. Please park across the street at City Hall on the second floor.

  Our Dance Team will be participating in two parades.  Huntington Park Parade on Saturday, December 8, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m. The South Gate parade on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. Support our dance team by attending the parades. 

Vernon City Fire Department  Vernon City fire department is committed to our students.  They will begin reading to our students once a month and leading physical education.  This year they will be inviting students with perfect attendance to the fire station to have lunch with Vernon Firefighters.  They will be cooking for all students with perfect attendance at the end of the school year. 




Parent  Workshop

There will be a parent workshop on  Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. The focus will be on A-G requirements.  





We are available to support all families with logging onto the Parent Portal.  The portal will provide families with access to important information.  We currently have supported 66% of families with logging on, we are striving to reach 100%.  Our goal for the month of December is 70%.  Student ID is necessary.  Information has been sent home. Enrollment We are looking for students to enroll at Vernon City.  If you have families or friends who work in the area, please let them know of all the great experiences at Vernon City Elementary. 



Emergency Cards  Emergency cards were sent home The emergency card must be returned to our office immediately to ensure we have parent/guardian contact information in case of an emergency.  Please ensure all information is accurate and notify the office of updates.  The school sends out Connect Ed messages with the numbers provided on the emergency card.  In case of an emergency, we must be able to notify a parent/guardian to ensure safety for each child.
