Weekly Blue Folder

To enhance communication with all families, every Wednesday students will receive a weekly blue folder with school flyers and information.  Please take out all paperwork from the folder, sign and date the cover page insert and return it with your child on Thursdays. Due to no school on Wednesday, September 19th, the folder will be sent home on Friday, September 21st and returned on Monday, September 24th.  Thank you for your support with home to school successful communication.

Please follow these guidelines

Drop-off for Drivers

Main gate on Santa Fe opens at 7:30 am and closes at 7:55 am daily.

Please drive onto our campus in the morning, as Santa Fe and Vernon are heavily trafficked.

Pick-up for Walkers and Drivers

Main gate on Santa Fe is open from 2:25 pm - 2:40 pm Monday and Wednesday thru Friday.

Tuesday Santa Fe gate is open from 1:25 pm - 1:40 pm

Santa Fe gate entrance is ONLY for cars.  Main entrance gate is for parents who walk to pick up their child(ren)

Main office entrance opens at 6:30 am ONLY for students who are enrolled in the Ready, Set, Go program and 7:30 for all students, There is NO supervision before 7:30 a.m. The office closes daily at 4:30 p.m.

Please walk your student(s) onto our campus at ALL times.

Students may never walk unaccompanied by an adult from our parking lot.

The limited STAFF parking lot is for teachers and staff ONLY.

For the convenience of everyone, please use the parent/visitor parking lot on Vernon.

At dismissal, please meet your child ON campus.

Main gate on Santa Fe opens at 2:28 pm and closes at 6 pm daily.

Additional parking is available at Vernon City Hall - 2nd floor parking structure.

We are currently accepting applications for 2019-2020 school year for grades TK-6th.  Children who live outside of our residential area are welcome! Limited spaces available.

May 20 is the LAST DAY you can register to vote in the June 4, 2019 special election. 

 

Los Angeles Unified voters can participate in the June 4 special election and vote on Measure EE- a 16 cent per square foot local school funding parcel tax that would provide funding for Los Angeles public schools. 

 

We encourage you to exercise your right to vote on June 4 and make your voice heard, regardless of how you vote.  Register to vote at www.registertovote.ca.gov

SBAC Testing begins the week of April 29th.  Please ensure to bring your children on time every day. Make sure your child gets a good night of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is served daily at 7:30 a.m. Stay positive about testing and encourage your child to do his/her best each day of testing. Many children get nervous during testing, which can cause anxiety. By acknowledging the importance of them being well prepared for testing, your positive support will make the difference.

 

International Day

International Day will be celebrated on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:45 p.m. with dismissal at 1:50 p.m. All classes will be dancing and representing different countries.  This will be an event you won’t want to miss.  Save the date! The parent center will be selling pizza, nachos, and drinks.

 

 

 We are hosting a silent auction of Disneyland tickets.  We have four packs four tickets and one pack of three tickets that will be auctioned on May 24th.  The silent auction for the tickets will begin on May 10th.  Stop by and bid on your favorite item.  Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the International Day event. 

 

Culmination will be held on Friday, May 31st at 1:45 p.m. in the school auditorium.  Students will wear a t-shirt and school uniform bottoms.  The t-shirt flyer will be sent home later this week.  There will be NO FREE dress for this event.  We will not allow balloons or flowers for the event.  This is a special event for students to share with classmates to culminate their year at Vernon City as Kindergarten students.  Parking is available across the street on the 2nd floor of the City Hall parking structure.  Please do NOT block any cars in our additional parking lot. 

 

Awards assembly will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 for all students in 1st-5th grade. 1st and 2nd grade students will be recognized at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium.  3rd-5th grade students at 1:15 p.m. Families are invited to support their children in receipt of award(s).  Kindergarten and 6th grade students will be recognized during culmination.

 

Culmination will be held on Thursday, June 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the school auditorium.  Students will have Dressy dress with appropriate attire. Strollers and balloons will not be permitted in the auditorium for safety reasons.  If you bring balloons, they will be checked into the library.  Parking is available across the street on the 2nd floor of the City Hall parking structure.  Please do NOT block any cars in our additional parking lot.  This is a special event for our 6th grade class and we would like it to be uninterrupted. 

Vernon City is pleased to announce Preschool for the 2019-2020 school year.  Preschool students will follow the same daily schedule as the rest of the student body.   School will begin at 8:05 and end at 2:28 p.m. with the exception of Tuesdays, dismissal will be at 1:28 p.m.  Information is available in the office.  Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to enroll your child.   Once enrollment is full, we will have a waiting list.  Please share this wonderful addition to our school site with co-workers, family, and friends.

 

Our annual culminating event of Field day will take place on Friday, June 7th upon District approval.  All students will need to wear pants to prevent burning as well as socks.   Shorts will be NOT be allowed.  Permission slips are required.  Students who have not followed school rules may be excluded from this event.  Dismissal will be at 1:04 p.m.

Thank you to all our families for your support in attaining our goal.  A special thank you to students, teachers, staff, and a special thank you to Ms. Lopez, and Mrs. Garcia for their support with registering parents. Attendance  Our attendance goal is to increase students who attend school 96%, which is equal to seven or less absences for the school year.  Please schedule appointments after school.  If your child has an appointment, and they are not ill, bring them to school.  Help us reach our goal.  However, if your child is sick, please do not send them to school.

Vernon City Fire Department  Vernon City fire department is committed to our students.  They will begin reading to our students once a month and leading physical education.  This year they will be inviting students with perfect attendance to the fire station to have lunch with Vernon Firefighters.  They will be cooking for all students with perfect attendance at the end of the school year. 

 

                                    

 

 

 

 

 

Enrollment We are looking for students to enroll at Vernon City.  If you have families or friends who work in the area, please let them know of all the great experiences at Vernon City Elementary. 

 

 


Emergency Cards  Emergency cards were sent home The emergency card must be returned to our office immediately to ensure we have parent/guardian contact information in case of an emergency.  Please ensure all information is accurate and notify the office of updates.  The school sends out Connect Ed messages with the numbers provided on the emergency card.  In case of an emergency, we must be able to notify a parent/guardian to ensure safety for each child.
